This is a Joint Service Achievement Ribbon with Certificate dated 1984, Citation & Folder. The Ribbon is marked N.S. MEYER & M-22 and measures 1 6/16" X 6/16. The Ribbon is from a "Ribbon Bar" (a ribbon bar has several Ribbons together on one pin) and does not have the pin backing. The Certificate states that "This is to Certify that the Secretary of Defense has Awarded the Joint Service Achievement Medal" and it is signed by Commanding General USA Military District of Washington, John L. Ballantyne, for Caspar W. Weinberger, Secretary of Defense. The Citation is " For exceptionally Meritorious Achievement while assisting with Ceremonies to Honor The Unknown American who died in Defense of Freedom during the Vietnam Conflict and who was returned to the United States of America to rest at Arlington National Cemetary beside the unknowns of World War I, World War II, and Korea. In performing demanding duties for this Nationally important event, culminating on Memorial Day, 28 May 1984, this servicemember served with exemplary professionalism and dedication to duty. Her superior service is a tribute to the principles of Patriotism and Freedom for which The Unknown American sacrificed his life.
