Large Arts and Crafts Sterling Silver Bowl by A Edward Jones form as a Scottish Quaich Made in Birmingham by Albert Edward Jones in 1917 A Very Large Good Arts and Crafts Sterling Silver Tree of Life Bowl made in the Art Nouveau style and the Scottish Quaich shape and form for Edward in Glasgow . Charming Scottish Quaich shape hand raised with the hammer marks clearly visible. Really lovely handles or lugs very well decorated with the tree of life over fox. The whole in very good order on raised foot. Very pleasing Scottish Classical decoration around the frieze. Stamped under 491A Edwards Glasgow so probably made for them as retailers. Hallmarks to side. The really lovely arts and crafts Tree of Life decoration possibly central to Jones faith. Said to have a strong religious convictions and remained a commited church man all his life. Working for many churches and many religions. The Tree of Life illustrates the concept that all on earth are related. This also emblemamatic and core to the Kabbala religion. The designer and craftsman Albert Edward Jones studied art at The Birmingham School of Arts and Crafts under Edward Taylor and the Birmingham Guild of handicraft of which Dixon was the leading light. The work of this master craftsman is becoming more deservedly collected and recognised. His history and ethic is very interesting and centred around Dixon's Arts and Crafts mantra " Dixon advocated fitness of purpose for each object made; that the workman should be responsible from start to finish" This from the exhibition catalogue for the retrospective of his work held by The Birmingham Museum. Pieces were donated for exhibition from many notable collections including Her Majesty The Queen, The Countess of Beauchamp, Many Museums and many notable others. His connection with Ruskin and use of inserts was used in early pieces. The company still exists although slowly adopted more mechanical means of production. Through the period he slowly started to make pieces for retailers and some of his work was hallmarked as such. This piece is interesting, not just because of its large size and excellent quality, but because it bears his mark. Condition: The Marks: Well Struck The Quaich : Very Good .
