We are extremely pleased to offer this important, mid 19th century American coin silver presentation ewer. From the famed Boston partnership of Jones, Ball & Poor, c1845. Shown with matching under-tray or salver. Listed in separate auction. The ewer is materfully hand wrought in raised baluster form. On thick, stepped and beaded pedestal base. The beaded decoration continues along the upper rim, and deep, high arched spout. Richly detailed grape, leaf and vine decoration throughout. Clearly the work of a chasing Master. Ruffled and deep line engraved, satin chased leaves. Clumps of grapes, each grape individually hand carved cascading downward. Thick, raised vine, grarled and striated as real. Finer, line engraved "wispy" vine curling all about. Presentation inscription, date 1850, as shown to Pastor Abiel Abbot Livermore. Born 1811. Graduated Harvard in Arts 1833 and Divinity 1836. Pastor in Keene N.H. 1836. Later in Cincinnati and Yonkers New York. In 1863 President of the theology school in Meadville, Pa. Author of numerous scholarly articles and texts. Died 1892. The Livermore ewer with tall, sweeping acanthus, pedestal and fruited ball drop spout. Grape and leaf to sides...gorgeous. Tall, "partial" S-scroll handle. Layered and satin chased acanthus cap. Chased leaf wrap to lower section. Boldly modelled panelled shell joins. Satin chased and deep line engraved. This Jones Ball & Poor coin silver ewer is 12 1/2 inches tall and 9 inches handle to spout. Extremely thick, heavy guage coin silver construction, weighs 27 1/2 ounces. The presentation ewer is in excellent condition. Rich, lustreous silver patina throughout. The extensive grape, leaf and vine, and satin chased acanthus and shell decoration retains its original crisp, vibrant hand chased detail. No rubbing, whatever to the high points of the decoration. Mild flat spot to base rim, remains perfectly steady on table. Well struck hallmarks to underside, as shown. "Jones Ball & Poor", "Boston", and "Pure Silver Coin". This ewer was sold two weeks ago for almost $2100. A bidder's account was compromised, hence it is being re-listed.
