His family moved to Geneva , Switzerland , in 1960 as political refugees, just before the erection of the Berlin Wall. After two years studying micro-mechanics at the Bienne Technicum, he enrolled in art school in Germany . In 1973, his passion for sculpture brought him to study at the London Academy of Arts for two years. Back in Switzerland , he started working in the design department of Rolex, w he stayed four years. He then decided to create his own design company, Hysek Styling. In 1984 he won the Grand Prix of Geneva for a cuff watch designed for Vacheron Constantin; in 1985 he won the Jury's Mention for a pocket watch designed for Jean Lassale. With his reputation now firmly established , he began working with the most prestigious brands, including Brequet, Cartier, Tiffany, Tag Heuer, Ebel, Seiko, and Boucheron. In 1996, he designed the first products to carry his own name - the JORG HYSEK line of writing instruments.
