Up for auction is a Jorg Hysek Dip Pen Box Set, including the Sterling Silver Dip Pen with New Nib, Ink Well with Sterling Silver cap and leather caddy with silver Hysek logo, custom pen stand, and black leather carrier with silver Hysek logo. The Hysek dip pen can be used as a writing tool (I do), but works best on very smooth paper. I write on Hewlett Packard 32 pound printer paper, around $15 per ream. The Hysek pressure sensitive nib is designed to allow the pen to write in thin or wide lines, as a pure gold nib will, and some calligraphy and illustration pens are designed to do (Spencerian and such). Since Hysek is a designer and engineer, it is not surprising that he would design this pen for himself. This was my second Hysek dip pen, after purchasing one with a black synthetic body. I used the first, with green ink, for writing text for books, and poetry (I sometimes publish). This second pen was to be used with black ink only, for checks and legal documents. I wrote maybe five or six pages with it when I first purchase it, then a few items over the course of three months, cleaned it and put it away, and never looked at it again, always opting to use the other pen. This pen is in virtually new condition. The body of the pen shows no indications of wear, at least as much as my aging eyes can see. The nib element of this dip pen design is removable for cleaning, and I decided to buy a few extra nibs, just in case I might wear one out. I have installed what I believe to be a brand new nib in this pen. I might have swapped it out once before, so it might have the very slightly used original nib. This and my spares all look identical. Long story short. This is virtually new. My other Hysek, well, that's a different story. I love the way these pens feel. I 've written at least two thousand pages with the other pen. The nib is excellent but shows some slight bluing loss from cleaning, the body looks great, and I can't see any signs of use on that one either. The accessories are all very well designed and produced. The pen stand is an excellent design; I keep my other stand on the desk at all times, for whatever pen I'm using at the time. It can work as a full support stand (presentation), or as a tilt-up support for times when you are using the pen off and on, frequently picking up and putting down, especially when drawing and shading. The ink well is based on a Dupont/Aladine ink bottle, with a heavy sterling silver cap and a non-slip leather caddy embellished with a sterling silver Hysek logo. I filled this once, with Dupont black ink (my favorite black), but has been cleaned completely. The leather carrier is for protection of the pen's finish if you choose to travel with it (NOT when flying. This could easily be considered a weapon). The carrier has been assembled with the smooth leather surface inside, to protect the pen. Again, this has the Hysek logo in sterling silver. Lift the box insert and you will find the original literature (3 little cards, not very helpful). Yes, the nib can be removed. Yes, you simply grasp it and pull. No, it is not easy. If you write with the same brand and color of ink all the time, and never change, simply rinse the pen point under cold water and let it dry, every month or two. I always give my pens a final rinse with distilled water, to avoid interactions between the ink and any metal elements in the tap water. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = I like things simple, so: I like to start my auctions at 77 cents, then watch the auction process determine the real value of the items.
