BRAND: Starting Lineup 2(SLU)

TYPE: Baseball-MLB

JERSEY #: 20

VARIANT: Batting ROOKIE Figure w/hologram trading card

This set is near-mint on card (meaning it is still on its original store display card in its original packaging, never opened, with no fading, no corner nubs on the hanging card, no creases or bends, no bubble damage). I purchased the set new and have stored it since purchased. It has never been displayed.

SLU brand sports sports cards, figurines and toy figurine sets are no longer in production. The Starting Lineup action figures were produced for a little over a ten-year period (1988 to 2001), first by Kenner and later by Hasbro. The toy line of sports action figures was conceived of by Pat McInally, a former professional American football player with the Cincinnati Bengals. The figures included sports stars from baseball, football, basketball, hockey; boxing, track & field, skating, soccer, and golf. During the 1988-2001 time period, the figures were very popular. When Hasbro shut down its Cincinnati operations in 2001, 53 years of Kenner history came to a close.

In the 2001 Starting Lineup baseball series (the last baseball player series Hasbro would make) Starting Lineup made some changes in its figures. The 2001 series, christened Starting Lineup2, had larger figures than their previous series and the figures were created in greater detail. These moves were made to compete with the emerging Todd McFarlane sports figure line that had come on the market.

The figure set comes from a pet-free, smoke-free, home. While created as toys for children, these sports figures are of interest to many adult fans and collectors.
