Joseph Clark Grew (1880-1965), American diplomat. He served as Ambassador to Denmark from 1920 to 1921, Switzerland from 1921 to 1924, Turkey from 1927 to 1932 and Japan from 1932 to 1941. He also served as Under Secretary of State twice. In January of 1941, Grew cabled the United Sates with information gatd by a Peruvian diplomat the Japan was considering a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. Grew was in Toyko at the time of the attack, and after the mutual declaration of war he was interned for a short time.A typed letter to a collector on Embassy stationary, dated May 13, 1935, signed by Joseph C. Grew.The letter is slightly discolored and has some creases. The envelope is quite soiled/creased/worn.The signed letter comes from the archives of the noted Raab Collection.
