Joseph Rodgers Heavy 30oz Solid Silver Punch Bowl C.1899 - Excellent Condition This quality solid sterling silver punch bowl was made by Joseph Rodgers and Sons of Sheffield, England. They were one of the most well known and best producers of flatware and other silver items in England. Rodgers were also cutlers to several English monarchs including George IV, William IV and Queen Victoria. This is a very attractive punch bowl which has been passed down through my family. It has lovely repousse work around the bowl and on the base. It was originally bought as a silver wedding present for the Pentland family and the couples initials are monogrammed in the middle of two scroll and leaf repousse panels on either side of the bowl along with the date of 1880-1905. It has a good heavy weight of 934 grams or 30 troy ounces which is a sign of its high quality. The bowl is clearly hallmarked as follows: Star and Maltese Cross - Joseph Rodgers trademark granted in 1862 J.R - makers mark for Joseph Rodgers & Sons Crown - Sheffield Silver Lion - Sterling 925 Silver g - date letter for 1899Measurements for the bowl are as follows: bowl circumference around top 34.5 inches/87.5 cms, bowl diameter 11 inches/28 cms, base circumference 17.75 inches/45.5 cms, base diameter 5.5 inches/14 cms and total height 7 inches/18 cms. This punch bowl is in excellent overall condition with a nice patina as it hasn't been over cleaned throughout the years. It does have one small ding (picture 11) and a couple of very small holes (picture 12) between the repousse work. The holes are certainly not obvious and can only be seen when the piece is held up to the light. They could be easily repaired if you wanted to. The inside of the bowl is also in very good condition with only light surface marking from normal use as you would expect on a piece that is over 110 years old. This handsome bowl would look great in the right house on a side board or as a table centrepiece. It could be displayed on its own or with fruit in. This punch bowl will be carefully packaged in a suitable box and sent by special delivery or Airsure to ensure its safe arrival. Why not have a bid and get this quality punch bowl that would make a lovely addition to any home. !! Please have a look at my other items !
