Joseph Smith SILVER Jupiter talisman medallion. A medallion, or lucky pocket piece which Joseph carried his adult life and was found in his pocket after he was martyred. This is a souvineer of the original. Measures 1 9/16 inches in diameter. The original medal that Joseph owned is in a private collection in Utah. The diagnostics of this medal were taken from the original. The original had a small hole punched in it so it could be used as a necklace or watchfob. On it are Hebrew words and symbols. Included in the sale is an information sheet that explains some of the history and authentication of this piece, as well as some of the Hebrew words and markings. While the Prophet Joseph Smith Jr. never urged his followers to use magical devices, t's plenty of evidence that he himself was an avid user of seer stones, divining rods, and talismans. In fact, Joseph's widow Emma reported that throughout his entire life Joeseph always carried a Jupiter Talisman with him, and it was in his pocket when he was assassinated in 1844. Years after Smith was killed, the Jupiter Talisman was bought by Mormon artifact collector Wilford C. Wood from Major Bidamon's (Emma's second husband) son Charlie.
