This is a hand printed in a darkroom 2001 gelatin silver photograph made from the vintage original negative of Josephine Baker for the 2001 for the museum exhibition in France entitled: "Exposition JOSEPHINE BAKER Music Hall et Paillettes." Photo is noted on back, Collection - Viollet. This photo was purchased for a fund-raiser for Baker's museum/home, Chateau Milandes. This photo had been on exhibition there. I purchased this photo after the museum show came down and they were selling this one-of-a-kind exhibition print photo to raise money for restoration of her castle.Here is what a writer in 2001 had to say about the exhibition:By Michael Rogin: "Travelling to Paris recently, I was surprised to see advertisements for 'Joséphine Baker, Music-hall et paillettes', an exhibition at the Espace Drouot-Montaigne commemorating the 75th anniversary of her electrifying Paris debut and the 25th anniversary of her death. With its pictures of Baker costumed and nude (and often both at the same time), with some fantastic outfits she actually wore and film of her dancing on stage, with snapshots of her among friends and admirers, the show recaptures the self-knowingly playful acrobatics and the heart-stopping clothed elegance of this unthreatening sexual being, a femme vitale but not fatale.
