JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE CONGRESS, HELD AT PHILADELPHIA, SEPTEMBER 5, 1774. Philadelphia:William and Thomas Bradford at the London Coffee-House, 1774. Octavo (approx. 5" x 8"), as found in cardboard cover with clear plastic top cover. 132p. First edition, first issue, of the official Journal of the First Continental Congress, one of the earliest publications of the American Government. An EXTREMELY RARE book containing the "Declaration of Rights" which constituted the defining issue of the American Revolution ("Life, Liberty and Property") and became the foundation of the Declaration of Independence. This book is in as found condition and has a damaged title page (spot pasted to an archival repair sheet) , damaged first leaf (page 1 & 2) and is missing page 3. The first ten pages are detached but present (detached in two groups) otherwise with the exception of some minor stains in the margins the book is in good condition! I have tipped in a facsimile title page under the original title page so the missing printing can be seen through the semi-transparent repair sheet (as seen in the first picture) .I have also tipped in a facsimile first leaf under the original first leaf so the missing text in the lower right corner can be seen (see picture #12) and a facsimile page 3 which is missing). The half title is not present and the only missing page is page three (the back of page three was originally blank). In the top left corner on page 132 is stamped "Duplicate Released by H.S.P. 1864" (possibly the Historical Society of Philadelphia). This book was recently discovered in a Rhode Island estate. I inserted the three facsimile pages otherwise this book is exactly as I found it! This 237 year old book is one of the earliest publications of the American government and is extremely rare to be found in any condition!
