You are bidding on a hand painted, signed, tankard or mug in the Arts and Crafts style. The piece is signed by the artist, Marie Wolf, and is on a blank from the Jean Pouyat porcelain works in Limoges. It has the JPL/France backstamp. The delicate floral motif is offset by a gilt rim and heavily gilt handle. The handle is interesting; it has the raised "scales" of the dragon style but not the head. The piece is in excellent condition, free from chips or cracks. T is some slight gilt loss to the rim. The mug is 5 1/2" tall, 4 1/4" wide at the base, 3 1/4" wide at the opening. The handle extends 2" from the body. The piece was almost certainly painted by an amateur. Porcelain painting was a popular pastime among "ladies of quality" at the end of the 19th and start of the 20th century. This piece displays a charming freshness.
