wood plate inlaid mother of pearl and some other materials , all hand made , 30 c"m in diameter . this type of work is called damascene work or in spanish taracea and it's well known for hundreds of years . it's well known in syria , egypt , morocco and spain . this plate is probably a jewish plate ( made by a jewish craftsman ) as it has a special design . on the center of the plate we can see 12 small david's stars on black background which means the 12 tribes of israel . the 12 david's stars are connected among themselves by lengthwise and crosswise lines in a shape of chain links , meaning - unity of the 12 tribes ( אחדות ישראל ) . on the plate we can see 7 hexagons . on each hexagon there are 7 small david's stars and 1 big david star in the center . the 7 hexagons are surrounded by the sun symbol ( many small triangles at the scope , picture 3 ) . the center is embossed and rounded as a dome ( similar to a kippah ). the rim is decorated with the well known antique symbol of wealth ( picture 8 ). on picture 2 you can see a 400 years old jewish amulet with the same kind of design . on pictures 4-5 two torah cases , 100 years old , from syria with the same kind of work . wood cases inlaid mother of pearl and some other materials . on pictures 6-7 an etrog box from 1900 from syria , as above . on picture 9 an Leonardo
