The orange cover on the McClurg & Co. editions of Jungle Tales of Tarzan are the positive identifier of a 1st edition, 1st printing (or 1st state) . Green covers identify 2nd, 3rd, and 4th printings. Also, the first two printings have the W.F. Hall imprint on the copyright page. This is the first edition, first printing. The book is in good to very good condition. The orange cover shows some of the dirt from being handled since 1919, as well as a couple of small stains. The spine has just a little wear at top and bottom The black lettering on spine and front cover is still black and easily readable. Some wear on edges and at corners. The only writing is on the front facing end page - a name and date of April 4, 1919. It is in pencil and easily erasable with a quality eraser - but I prefer to leave ownership dates untouched. No other markings or writings or stamps. Pages have an occasional stain, but are mostly clean and straight. Binding is solid; the hinge just before the frontispiece is cracked. The frontispiece and the other four sepia plates are firmly attached.I am including a nice facsimile dust jacket enclosed in a new Brodart jacket protector.Remember-- if it does not have an orange cover, it is not a first printing!I list other Burroughs books for sale several times a week.
