I thought I was doing great when I picked up this Gutta Percha case , you hardly see these anymore. For those who are unfamiliar Gutta Percha is a hard resin made from tree sap and these were the best of the old cases. Inside were 1940's photographs so natuarally I removed them and - Voila ! a Union private is staring at me with Colt in hand as if he had just sprung back to life. This is just how I like to find this stuff and when you think it's all been found comes one more. Discoveries keep us going and just as this fresh find is unearthed with this this soldier I am going to share in this treasure and discovery with my ebay public. I'm sure I'm going to hear from all my cronies the same thing "Why didn't you call me ?" But those who follow me know to keep me in their favorites and I'm not going to call anyone as this is going up for sale, no reserve and an honest to goodness auction so get your bidding hats on and bid on this today's find. I wished I could identify this lad but like so many soldiers in 1861 -62 they went to the photographers tent that followed many times an army and the boys would line up for a tintype to send home. This was discovered in an old - ahhem " Southern estate " with apparent skeletons in the closet right in Knoxville , Tennessee but we were very divided in East Tennessee and this really wasn't that uncommon to have a Yankee in the family. Ok 's the specs - Case closed measures 2 1/5 inches wide and 3 inches tall. It's 3/4 inch thick. Tintype is 2 1/2 by 2 inches. Soldier has a high collar jacke twith single buttons and has rose enhanced cheeks. Not sure on the weapon but you all will know so I'm not going to bother. Cavalry ? Don't know but since he appears to be a private and we had lots and lots of Union Cav in East Tennesee my guess is that's the case Ground rules: This is an auction , really and the high bidder will win no funny business so bid away as I care nothing for Yankees. 2. This is from an estate that yours truly is helping out with and all sales are final so don't even think about whining because I have to pay the estate , I haven't even told them yet that I've found this so don't be a horses patoot and give me a hard time . On this item t is no paypal accepted - money order, personal check that has cleared or a bank wire or a cashiers check. I will take 500 more pics for you all but you need to ask if you have a question. I swear this is real , just found and not some put together item , this is just as I found it so rest assured you are not being ripped off. Sorry to be like this but the game players out t have driven me to this , I've been working on a handshake most my life and wished that it could still be this way but alas times have changed. Just have fun bidding and winning and sharing in this new found Civil War tintype with it's great case.
