TALES OF WONDER No. 16, Spring of 1942, The World's Work LTD., Surrey-England. I'm going to go up on a soap-box with this description, and people can "kid" me later - but listen up PULP COLLECTORS - when comic dealers use the term RARE with comics they are mostly giving you a time honored b___s___ line in relation to fact. This pulp is RARE - and is why. The small printed statement on the left side of this issue states... " Since this issue went to press, we have been obliged - owing to paper restrictions and war conditions generally - to discontinue this magazine while the war lasts. No further issue will appear until peace comes when we hope to resume publication as before." This was the final issue of WONDER STORIES, and for British fans in the 1950's this copy was RARE in top condition in their own time. I have been collecting SF pulps for 1/2 century - and have a 100% complete high grade collection - and I own Forrest J Ackerman's own set of Wonder Stories - in extremely high-grade. And believe me when I tell you that my own copy of Ackerman's Wonder #16 was at best VG-. Everyone knew they were rare - then along came the Estate COLLECTION OF HARRY WARNER Jr., w Harry wrapped off his rarer pulps in newspapers dated 1953 over a 1/2 century ago - and I opened one such bundle to find three copies of this rare issue in an envelope.
