Kalaga Burmese Tapestry Large Size 3 Block Story Silk Border with Loops Ready to Hang As an importer and dealer of Burmese Kalagas for 27 years, I never tire of showing these beautiful handmade works of art. If you have any questions about this or other Kalagas, please let me know. This Kalaga is an example of the best of current Kalaga making. The colors and workmanship all blend superbly. Since there inception three centuries ago, the subject of Kalagas was always about important Burmese folklore and religious icons. Starting at the first story block on the left, is a sacred white elephant before an important king who would later before an important Buddhist figure. The center block shows the same prince/king in a chariot being visited by an angel. The right block shows the prince/king in his palace. The technique for making Kalagas and the materials used has remained much unchanged in three centuries. The background on the sides is reflective threads sewn closely today. Decorative patterns are formed out sliver & brass sequins. Glass stones are incorporated in the background pattern.
