A hand hammered or hand wrought pastry server by Yngve Olsson of the Kalo Silversmiths or Kalo Shop. The piece measures roughly 7-1/2 inches in length. On the reverse of the stem is stamped "HAND WROUGHT" and "STERLING" and the monogram "YO." The piece has an engraved flower on the front. On the back of the piece is the letters F, H and E with a flower in the middle. The piece weighs approximately 2 ounces on the postal scale. It is in excellent condition. Wear is commensurate with age.Kalo Silversmiths was founded by Clara Barck Welles. In 1940, when Welles retired, she handed the store over four men -- Bower, Myhre, Pedersen, and Olsson. Bower was the shopmaster, Olsson the chief designer. According to Sharon Darling's Chicago Metalsmiths, while most of the forms produced by the Kalo Shop were designed by Welles, Olsson "contributed some original ideas."Olsson created silver items on his own, at his home workshop. Peter and Rod Tinkler, silver dealers and experts, wrote an article on Olsson for the July/August 1999 issue of Silver Magazine, which contained the following biography: "Born of Swedish parents in Copenhagen on 16 April 1896, Olsson was the oldest of four sons.
