What is a KAMPILAN Sword: The Kampilan is a type of single-edged long sword from the Philippines , widely used throughout the archipelago before European colonization, but now mostly used by endigenous Muslim tribes on the island of Mindanao , notably the Maguindanao , and the Maranao . It has a distinct profile, with the tapered blade much broader, and thinner at the point than at its base, a protruding spike at the back end of the tip, and a long hilt shaped to represent an animal's open mouth.
