This is group of higher quality old Japanese hair ornaments some of which are over a hundred years old. The comb is from the late Edo period and features a gold raised lacquer snowflake design against a natural shell background. It has some insect damage on the teeth and is missing one tooth on the left, plus one other is slightly nicked (in the middle). The long square gold lacquer comb is also on shell, and so it has insect damage on its teeth. (It is hard to find a comb this age made out of shell that doesn't have some degree of damage). The teeth are all intact. The two kogai with large coral beads are made out of wood and feature gold lacquer floral design that goes down the stem. T are red lacquer embellishments on the black one, showing a nice attention to detail. The smallest gold lacquer stick is in raised gold lacquer and features a flower design, it is in very good condition and is signed. The other gold stick has a leaf design and has some wear especially at the edges and on the back. It is the longest piece in this set and is 6" long. This is a nice set of old pieces that are sold "as is" for a kanzashi collector on a moderate budget.
