This woodblock print, entitled "Nissaka Tokaido," was created by noted Japanese artist, painter and printmaker Kawase Hasui (1883-1957). The woodblock features a traditional Japanese village scene during a cold rainstorm at dusk. A woman with an umbrella and carrying her child on her back moves carefully up the drenched street. The glow of the lights from a home up the street shine down on the wet pavement. This woodblock is printed from the original blocks in a later edition. This print was purchased at the Kabutoya Gallery in San Francisco in 1977; the gallery owners made yearly visits to Japan and personally selected all the prints they displayed in their gallery. We are offering all 10 of our Hasui woodblock prints at the same prices that we purchased them 31 years ago. This woodblock print is in excellent condition: no creases, tears, foxing or stains; t are two rice paper hinges on the reverse upper corners w the print is attached to the original gallery matting. This print has been stored flat in an archival Hollander box and has never been framed. This Oban Yoko-e print image measures 9-1/2" (24 cm) high and 14-1/4" (36 cm) wide, the paper measures 10-1/2" (26.5 cm) high and 15-1/4" (38.5 cm) wide. The woodblock print will be shipped flat, packaged between archival papers for safe delivery and sent by Insured USPS Priority
