This is a very rare find, a small STILL SEALED 1954 pack of five Kent King Size cigarettes, manufactured by the P. Lorillard Company, with the Micronite filter, WHICH CONTAINED CROCIDOLITE (BLUE ASBESTOS) from 1952 to 1956! You can tell it is from 1954 from the Dewitt-Clinton Tax Stamp on it that clearly says "SERIES 124" (SEE PICTURE!) and "Series 124" stamps were issued ONLY IN 1954 so this makes it one of the FIRST Kent Packs containing crocidolite asbestos (one of the most dangerous types of asbestos, now banned almost everywher). The pack is 3 3/8 X 1 7/8 X3/8 inches and in MINT SEALED condition with a bit of tobacco caught between the cellophane and the label (cellophane a little bit damaged at the bottom but nothing serious and this pack has NEVER been opened), it's 3 7/8 X 2 7/8 X 3/8 inches and was manufactured at P. Lorillard's "Factory No. 8, New Jersey". Of course, by then the companies claimed they didn't knew the damages of asbestos and smoking. They pretended that their crocidolite asbestos filter (by then, crocidolite asbestos was described in most Kent ads as "so safe, so pure") could remove enough nicotine and tars to protect sensitive smokers, which, of course, is false cause it heightens the risk of getting health problems cause, years later, it was discovered that BOTH asbestos and smoking could cause cancer and that Crocidolite asbestos is a material so dangerous it's now banned everyw In fact, their filter could have sent you to the hospital because of all the diseases related to that very dangerous form of asbestos AND smoking!! Nowadays, the even warn asbestos workers that smoking greatly increases the lung cancer risks associated with asbestos and urge them not to smoke while handling asbestos (as stated on asbestos bags) And they called that the greatest health protection in cigarette history?? Kinda sounds like the worst, if you want my opinion! Evidence at many trials against P. Lorillard demonstrated that the company knew or should have known of the dangers associated with asbestos before 1952 when it first made and sold Kent Micronite asbestos filtered cigarettes. Tafter, despite such knowledge, Lorillard Tobacco Company (by and through its predecessor P. Lorillard Tobacco Company) continued to manufacture, market and sell Kent Micronite asbestos filtered cigarettes until at least May of 1956, when a new filter media was substituted. Throughout this period Lorillard never advised or warned consumers that its Kent cigarette filters contained crocidolite asbestos, the most potent carcinogen of the various asbestos fiber types. Despite independent testing conducted at the request of Lorillard in 1954, which demonstrated fiber release from Kent cigarette filters, the company continued to manufacture and sell its product, without recall, for another two years. Between 1952-1956 Lorillard sold 13 billion Kent Micronite asbestos filtered cigarettes but PACKS LIKE THIS ONE HAVE BECOME SO SCARCE NOWADAYS CAUSE MANY LITIGATORS BOUGHT ALMOST ALL THE REMAINING KENT PACKS FROM THAT ERA TO USE IN NUMEROUS LAWSUITS against P. Lorillard! This is definitely a strange and rare cigarette pack that any person interested to asbestos and cigarettes memorabilia should possess! NOTICE: These cigarettes are being offered only for the purpose of collecting, not for sale to persons under the age of 18 (or the legal age in your area), and certainly not for consumption, as smoking is hazardous to your health! This item also contains asbestos and, tfore, is considered to be a class 9 hazardous material. By bidding, you assume responsibility for safe handling and storage. I recommend storage in airtight container such as a jar or sealed display case, avoid excessive handling, avoid creating dust, avoid inhaling and keep out of the reach of children. The package has not been opened, but the product within is not for consumption. The value of the item is in the collectible packaging, not in the tobacco itself. The collectible tobacco packaging is not available at any retail outlet. The value of the ...
