KILLDEER SHOREBIRD DECOY CARVINGby HAROLD VAN DYCKof CLAYTON, DELAWAREThe Killdeer is a member of the plover family but has 2 neck-rings. It is common across the entire US. Unlike other shorebirds, it is most often seen away from the shore. It nests on lawns, gravel roads, or open fields. Killdeer are a vocal bird and are well known for their broken-wing display where they pretend to be injured to draw potential predators away from their chicks. Killdeer nest in small depressions on the ground.I individually hand carved and painted this Killdeer. It stands about 9 ½ inches tall and about 9 ½ inches wide. The eyes are glass. I signed the bird under the tail and also sign and date the bottom of the baseThis carving would make a great gift for your favorite bird enthusiast or decoy collector. It is a good opportunity to own an affordable piece of original art bought directly from the artist.Carving birds, particularly shorebirds, has been my passion for over 35 years.T H A N K S F O R L O O K I N G ! ! ! !TERMS OF SALEPayPal is the required form of payment. The buyer pays for shipping via USPS Priority Mail.
