This medal is the third issue of the INDIAN GENERAL SERVICE MEDAL 1908-35 . The obverse bears the crowned head of King George V with the legend 'GEORGIVS. V.D.G. BRITT. OMN. REX. ET. INDAE. IMP.' . The reverse depicts the fortress at Jamrud commanding the entrance into Afghanistan at the Khyber Pass with the word 'INDIA' in the lower center. The suspender is a swiveling ornate scroll type with a double claw mount sweated to the medal. The clasp awarded with this medal is 'MOHMAND 1933' . Only three clasps were awarded for service with third issue of this medal, Burma 1930-32, North West Frontier 1935, and MOHAMAND 1933 .This medal was issued to 8853 SEP. JAGAT SINGH 3-2 PUNJAB R. (3rd Battalion, 2nd Punjab Regiment) for service in the punitive Mohmand Column, commanded by Brigadier Claude Auckinleck, between 29 July and 3 October 1933. The Sikhs took part in operations against the Upper Mohmands in order to cover the construction of a motor road into the Mohmand territory. The road had to be protected every day by the troops while construction proceeded and they were engaged constantly by small parties of tribsmen who tried to harass road construction.
