THE KINGDOM AND PEOPLE OF SIAM; WITH A NARRATIVE OF THE MISSION TO THAT COUNTRYIN 1855 BY SIR JOHN BOWRING , F.R.S. HER MAJESTY'S PLENIPOTENTIARY IN CHINA VOLUME II (ONLY) LONDON: JOHN W. PARKER AND SON, WEST STRAND 1857 (First Edition) This is one volume only (of two), volume II A rare first edition, volume. It measures approx 22.2cm x 15cm x 3.8cm. The volume has been rebacked, at some time, and a new leather and gilt title label applied. The orginal board, have been retained, and are surface scuffed and worn, and the corners and edges are bumped and chipped. Internally, there are more recent endpapers to the front and rear, a little grubby. The frontispiece portrait, has a small stain to the top corner, and has a couple of small nicks to the fore edge. There is a blind embossed library stamp to the title page. There is a little tatty inner edge before the first page of text, where the facsimile signature has been removed. The contents have some scattered pale browning and foxing in places, a little more so around the plates. The contents are cracking to the centre, and a couple of the plates have been restuck, rather tightly to the text leaves either side.
