This is a bit of a brass mystery. It comes in a Pacific Pike box for a Southern Pacific 2-6-0, but it is clearly not an SP engine. The boiler has an SP look to it, but it has been modified with Canadian National elements, particularly the slant cab and the front-mounted angled number boards. It has been nicely painted and lettered as a Canadian National class E10-a mogul with a road number of 908. The locomotive is not marked, but the tender has an Olympia tag on the underside.My best guess is that this is a kit-bashed facsimile of a Canadian National locomotive done by a talented modeler back in the day when the variety of brass models available was very limited and you could afford to cannibalize what was available. The detail work is excellent and there are many fine touches, including lenses and paper curtains on the rear of the cab. It is in very good used condition. I applied power to the engine and the wheels and motor turned smoothly. The drawbar is a belt and suspenders arrangement, with both a wire and a pin from the tender. Overall, it is pretty much ready to roll.If any of you experts out there have any information to add, I will be happy to post it. It does resemble a CNR engine. Buy a piece of brass modeling history.
