Here for sale is a stoneware whiskey jug made with a devil face. He has a flowing beard and moustache and angry cursing eyebrows. He has pointy ears and porcelain horns. This jug is a 9" tall and 7.5" wide. It is a fully functional bottle. Here the devil seems reminescent of the early gargoyles that adorned the roofs of buildings so that devils could spy out the actions of the people below. This whiskey jug was fired in a high fire gas kiln to cone 10. It has a food safe iron black glaze on and in it. In keeping with southern face jug tradition, the eyes and teeth are made of porcelain. The artist's logo demon stamp on the back is also porcelain. This is a unique, one-of-a-kind, piece of folk art, made on a potter's wheel. It is in perfect mint condition. The artist's name and the number of the jug are carved into the bottom. The maker is Karen Labarga, a well known folk artist living in Plantation, Florida.
