ITEM DESCRIPTION: blue/silver label, stereo, dowel spine) features Otto Klemperer and the Philharmonia Orchestra’s deeply impressive accounts of Richard Strauss’ Metamorphosen for 23 Solo Strings and the same composer’s Death and Transfiguration, both recorded in the fabled acoustics of London’s Kingsway Hall in 1961 (producer: Walter Legge). Avoiding any overt lushness, Klemperer brings an austere and elegiac beauty to these works that is quite moving with the ‘Eroica’ quotations masterfully brought off in the close of Metamorphosen.This is exalted conducted and orchestral playing by any measure, preserved in its first French stereo pressing – a highly desireable heavy cardbaord sleeve with a dowel spine. CONDITION: The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. T is very minor bumping at corners and small instances of discoloration to the rear panel, but that is all. T are no bends, seamsplits, or other defects and the jacket remains solid, bright, and very striking in appearance – overall, a truly superb collector's copy. The condition of the dowel spine is near-MINT. T are no seamsplits, and the dowel is perfectly intact and legible. The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT and plays without defect – again, a superb collector's copy.
