For your consideration is a Knight stereo amplifier that is essentially the Dynaco ST35 circuit but with superior point to point wiring layout rather than the printed circuit used in the ST35. It uses 4 vintage EL84 (6BQ5) output tubes, one 6GH8 amplifier/phase splitter tube per channel (same pinout as the 7199 and is an acceptable substitute), and a 5U4 rectifier. The amp is in solid working condition (coupling capacitors are new) and the chassis cosmetics are outstanding for this vintage 1960 classic. This amp employs ultralinear tranformers just like the transformers on the Dyna ST35. To me it sounds better than the dynaco SCA35 that I recently sold - it had was fast on transients and very balanced from top to bottom. The cage shows some wear and discoloration, which is easily remedied. Unique to this amp is a metal cover which fits over all of the 9 pin tubes and is designed to keep these tubes well positioned in the tube sockets. It is readily removed, if desired, by simply removing one threaded machine screw. It also has front panel level controls which enable the amp to be used without a preamplifier for all high level sources such as FM, CD, and Tape.
