An Art Nouveau/ Jugendstil tea service by the German maker, Koch & Bergfeld. Koch & Bergfeld was an old firm which began operations in the early years of the 19th century. The firm undertook some of its most important commissions in the late 19th century and early 20th century. It executed designs by Henry van de Velde for the Thuringian court jeweller, Theodor Muller. The firm also did contract work for two of Berlin's leading pre-World War One jewlers; Gebr. Friedlaender and Lazarus Posen. The tea set is very much in the Art Nouveau style with a motif of flowers, dragonflies, and beetles. One can also see the Japanese influence which was so pronounced in art secession movements in Central Europe and Germany in the period from 1890 to 1910. The surface of each piece is not only beautifully decorated; it is also fully chased. All four pieces are in beautiful condition. T are no dents or dings.
