Koestel Wax Nativity Figure -- Madonna and Child Handmade in West Germany This figure stands 16 inches tall. The faces are made of wax, and the figure is supported by a pleated, gold paper base. The Madonna wears a lavender velvet dress that is decorated with amethyst colored stones - star shaped ones on the skirt, and round ones that are closer to the neckline. Her dress is draped with a teal velvet cape and hood (she wears two antique gold mantillas under the hood). The reverse sides of the cape and hood are lined with rose colored tafetta, which is visible in various places from the front. The cape is accented with amber colored, star shaped stones on the left side. The hems of both the dress and cape are embellished with braided gold trim, and this gold trim also forms the three pointed crown atop her hood. Her halo achieves its spectacular effect via layers of antique gold metallic threads. The baby Jesus wears a gown made from both the teal velvet that comprises the Madonna's cape, and also the gold fabric that matches one of the mantillas covering the Madonna's head. This Madonna could be displayed spectacularly on her own or grouped with other Koestel angels. She would also be lovely with one of Koestel's larger sized Joseph figures.
