ANTIQUE 1900s BARBER CHAIR A gift from the Original Members of The Ozark Mountain Daredevils group to their A&M Records' Producer in 1974. DESCRIPTION Beautiful 1900s Koken Barbers' Supply Chair with Congress Pedestal Hydraulic. Chair is heavy natural oak with added carved oak and copper embellishments. Arm supports, footrest plate and hydraulic locking brake are nickle plate as well as the pedestal's base cover. Outer rim of the base is copper with a nice patina. Padded seat, arms and back support appear to be upholstered in heavy cowhide leather. The Patent Plate on the back of the chair reads: "Congress Pedestal Hydraulic. Pat. Dec. 8 1891, Oct. 22 1895, Dec. 5 1901 and Pat. Applied For Koken Barbers' Supply Co., St. Louis." CONDITION EXCELLENT It did not come with a headrest. The oil hydraulic system works fine. I don't know if the leather is original but it is in really beautiful aged condition having been in a private home for almost 40 years. Only one brad missing at top left corner of back cushion (see photos). The surface of the wood and nickle is in excellent condition with some cracks and the petal of one flower missing in the nickle footrest plate. (see photo) The owner, who produced the early Ozark Mountain Daredevils albums for A&M Records in the 1970s, was given this beautiful barber's chair as a gift in 1974. It was shipped to his house in Hollywood from Missouri (where the Daredevils were from and lived) and it remained in his lower level music room until now. He is selling the house and I am listing a few of his music biz things since we have known each other since the old A&M days. I designed the album cover for the Daredevils' A&M album, "Men From Earth" and we worked together for the 10 years I was at A&M Records. I can personally vouch for the provenance and condition of the chair. These are my photos of the chair so if you want more photos of anything, please ask.
