Hiyoshi Mamoru- Hiyoshi Mamoru was a contemporary of Tokuriki. He was a native of Tokyo and studied art at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. He was both a painter and woodblock print artist. His 1950's woodblock prints are what he is most well known for. His prints are colorful and nicely designed and have a distinctly mid-20th century quality to them. Mamoru specialized in prints of the beautiful, traditional places all over Japan and scenes from Korea . He was especially fond of Korea and visited the country numerous times during his life. In both his Japanese and Korean prints Mamoru shows an affinity for the simple scenes of everyday life. His subjects are charming. These lovely old prints, offered this evening, came directly from a Japanese estate. We found single Mamoru prints offered, and sold, in the $250 to $375 range on the net.
