Kosta Boda Bertil Vallien Bullicante Modern Art Glass I just purchased this Boda-Afors / Kosta Boda AB art glass vase / footed bowl from a local estate in Central Virginia. The vase was designed by Bertil Vallien, I believe this design dates to the early 1970's. Vallien graduated from Stockholm's University of Arts, Crafts & Design (1961) and following a Royal Foundation Scholarship, was hired by director Eric Rosen as a freelance designer (1963). This bullicante vase is beautifully executed with ebony outlines to the controlled bubbles in geometric arrangement. The piece has an attractive modern form with spherical bowl rising from a heavy disc bae. The bowl measures 5 3/8" in diameter and 4 5/8" high. The ground / polished base and recessed pontil are unsigned, but this design is well documented. The vase is in excellent condition with no damage. T is one area, roughly 1/2" square, w t are some extra small air bubbles in the bullicante design (production / pictured). This striking Ballien design would make a nice addition to any collection of modern (1970's) Swedish / Scandinavian art glass or Eames / Knoll / Miller inspired décor.
