Description: For sale is a nicely refinished Kroehler Mfg. Co Antique Sofa Sleeper. The wood is Oak and has been refinished nicely. It is in good condition with normal wear and tear for a piece this old. T is no mattress in the sleeper. I believe this was manufactured in the early 1900's. I would guess around 1915-1920. The arms appear to be quarter sawn oak and have a very nice tight wood grain. The upholstery is covered in a red vinyl material. The bed frame is in good working condition and folds out fine. I did some Internet research and learned thatPeter Kroehler was the manager of the Naperville Lounge Companyoutside Chicago in the late 19th century. By 1890 he had worked up to the title of president. His primary area of interest was in folding beds and he patented several and bought a number of smaller companies that made similar beds. Between 1912 and 1915 he rolled all the companies into a new entity called Kroehler Manufacturing and became one of the largest upholstery and bedding houses in the country. Peter Kroehler developed a folding bed in 1909 and began to acquire companies with similar designs. He opened Kroehler Manufacturing in 1915. Kroehler made contract goods for both Montgomery, Ward and Sears and often shipped directly from the factory to the customer. Kroehler was liquidated in 1981. If you have any questions, read more
