Offered for auction is a lovely antique KT&K China Lotus Ware Chocolate Jug/Pot in the Quincy design . Measuring 9" high, this design is shown on page 33 of the "Collectors Encyclopedia of Knowles, Taylor & Knowles China". The picture caption mentions the K.T. & K. Mark 5, which is the same mark found on the bottom of this jug. Also on the bottom is the artist initial in gold. This jug is translucent china. Lotus Ware, which is translucent china, was designed as art porcelain and was produced in East Liverpool , Ohio from 1890 and was dropped from production in 1896, due to high production costs. The outside of the jug is free of crazing, chips and cracks. It has lovely subtle coloring and is glazed on the inside and handle but the outside appears to be unglazed. The gold gilt trim decoration is still is good condition. T is old scotch tape residue on one side (at some time, the lid must have been taped on to the body of the jug). I did not try to remove this. The only condition issue I see is the lid rim on the inside of the jug is broken (see photo). The lid also has a perfectly designed arch (see photo), which I think is original. This opening would allow hot liquid to pour into the cup without taking the lid off. My parents collected Lotus Ware for 60+ years and this was in their collection. Over 100 years old, it is a beautiful example of American porcelain. Email if you need more photos or have questions. Please remember that most of my listings are vintage and old family pieces, unless otherwise stated. These pieces may not always be perfect, that is what gives them character and uniqueness. I try very hard to describe everything to the best of my ability. If t is something that is important to you, please ask questions before bidding. Insurance, if requested, is extra and available at the rate of $1.35 per $50.00 value. I am not responsible for breakage if the item is not insured.
