KUBA - RAFFIA CLOTH - CONGO # 10336

Ceremonial skirt made of hand-woven fine palm fiber raffia textiles from the Kuba tribe of the Dem Rep. of Congo. Kuba men used long skirts as this for special ceremonial occasions. They also play an important role in funeral celebrations as grave goods. The Kuba believe that a high quality, correctly patterned raffia dress is key to being recognized by clan ancestors in the land of the dead. This splendid piece measures 27 inches long by 20 inches wide.
