Kuchi-e Print

Kuchi-e Print

Low opening bid, no reserve- These original antique prints are starting at a super low opening bid of $24.99 tonight. Similar prints are regularly sold in the $350 - $500 range. Bid now to win an original antique Japanese print for your home, office, or collection.

Kuchi-e prints - Kuchi-e prints are wood block printed frontispiece illustrations used in the publication of Japanese novels and magazines around the turn of the 20th century.

Comments- A terrific Toshikata kuchi-e print from an old tale. A samurai tetd to a tree with a stern look on his face is attempting to escape. In the vignette to the rights, young beauty, perhaps his lover. Her hair treated in a black on black lacquered finish -- very nice.

Signed- Toshikata
Image size- 11 1/4" x 8 3/4"
Condition- Some light spotting, as is common in these kuchi-e pieces (see photo). One spot in upper left corner (see photo). A few tiny holes on right edge, in margin only (see photo). In generally good condition overall as shown with excellent original color and fine detail. No holes, tears, repairs, not backed. The print is folded twice vertically (now flattened) as are all kuchi-e prints (because of their use), so this is not a negative. A nice print for display or to add to a collection.
