Kung Fu Man The titles on this record reflect Perry's obsession with kung fu movies, replacing his earlier fascination with spaghetti westerns. Regardless of title and cover, this is a sterling example of the Upsetter's art. The great Augustus Pablo adds his melodica to most of the proceedings. The effects are wonderful and reminiscent of Pablo's contemporary work with legendary producer King Tubby. Pablo's presence has a leavening effect on Perry's usual brand of craziness, though the odd buzz and whistle still creep in. Overall, this is a gentler, dreader recording than most of what leaked from the Black Ark, and one fans of either Mr. Perry or Pablo shouldn't be without. ~ Rob Ferrier, Rovi
