Estate found vintage 1905 to 1915 signed "The Work Of L.& J.G. Stickley" large mission quartered oak rocking chair in very good to excellent original as found condition. This piece is marked by the maker under the arm [see photo] .The rocker has a nice chestnut brown color and still retains it's original oil finish in very good shape with no signs of refinishing, repairs or recoating. It's shown with a non polished surface & patina, Im sure some lemon oil or old english would bring up the grain, I like it mello and left it alone. It was found with it's original cushion and spring seat covered with the original rose pattern fabric that's showing it's age & tenderness. The front legs are pinned to the arched front seat frame with two pegs on each side, the front frame also has a chamfer on the top. Side seat frames are also arched, with a horizontal slat stretcher above. Arms have through tenons from front legs and start to taper about 20" from front, inside edge has slight profile curve nearing the back frame. Side corbels extend down a bit past the seat frame line. Back frame has four curved rails and is also pegged twice on each side at the top head rail. Rockers are attatched with four counter sunk screws from underneth and rockers have old green felt attatched to protect the floors and perhaps to make the rocking more quite. The read more
