Estate found vintage 1905 to 1915 signed "The Work Of L.& J.G. Stickley" large mission quartered oak rocking chair in very good to excellent original as found condition. This piece is marked by the maker under the arm [see photo] .The rocker has a nice chestnut brown color and still retains it's original oil finish in very good shape with no signs of refinishing, repairs or recoating. It's shown with a non polished surface & patina, Im sure some lemon oil or old english would bring up the grain, I like it mello and left it alone. It was found with it's original cushion and spring seat covered with the original rose pattern fabric that's showing it's age & tenderness. The front legs are pinned to the arched front seat frame with two pegs on each side, the front frame also has a chamfer on the top. Side seat frames are also arched, with a horizontal slat stretcher above. Arms have through tenons from front legs and start to taper about 20" from front, inside edge has slight profile curve nearing the back frame. Side corbels extend down a bit past the seat frame line. Back frame has four curved rails and is also pegged twice on each side at the top head rail. Rockers are attatched with four counter sunk screws from underneth and rockers have old green felt attatched to protect the floors and perhaps to make the rocking more quite. The spring seat is very solid and numbered in blue with stenciled "R 341 , 421" on the wood frame. All coil springs are intact and stablized with small chains which appear complete and intact. The back cushion is all t and is original to the chair showing the shape of the chair in it's form. The measurements are as follows.. Width of interior seat frame 23+1/4", depth 24", width of arms from outside edge to outside edge is 31+1/4", length of rockers straight line measure is 33", width is 1+11/16". Height of back off the floor with cushions installed is aprox 37" width of back outside measures 23+3/8". Width of arms is 5", length is 28+1/2", they are a solid 1" thick. Legs in front are 1+3/4" x 1+3/4" , back legs are 1+5/8" x 1+5/8". The overall appearence is great with just a bit of edge abrasion and a few spots of moving contact transfers of paint that have been somewhat scrubbed off in spots [minor blemishes]. The frame is very solid, the arms have great patina and use smoothness with no major dings or gouges so common with these rockers. This rocker is oh so comfortable and very well designed, a hard to find form and always going up in value. It will be much better in person as the photos were taken in filtered sunlight making the color a little dull in the images. Shipping will be done by a local professional service which will provide a freight transport and custom packing job unless you prefer to pick up yourself. Rates for shipping charges should run between $250 for the north east up to $400 for the west coast including the packing fee. This chair weighs almost 70 pounds and will take a big box that wont be accepted by UPS. I would much prefer a local pickup to avoid having to remove the rockers and pay for the packing service. I could also deliver within most of New England for a fee if special arrangements are made. Please email with any questions, shipping quotes might take a day or two so please ask well before the end of the auction. NO NON PAYING BIDDERS!, I just dont have the patience anymore, serious buyers ONLY, payment is required within 7 days, please take note before bidding. This is a rare opportunity to own a wonderful original Stickley rocker that's waiting for your choice of leather or fabric to grace your home. My dog is used for scale, he comes in at 100 pounds and will make sure nobody sits in your chair while I'm away. Thanks for looking.
