Featured tonight is what is arguably the most popular of all the many Gatsby styles. This is the Style 4 which has the same lenses (P-3) as the very popular John Lennon Rounds which may explain why this is the most popular version of the Gatsby series. This specimen has the more common strata pattern tortoise as opposed to the more rare speckle pattern tortoise (see next auction for the speckle pattern). The lenses are true green RB-3 optical glass in size 44mm.

The condition of the glasses is excellent to near mint. The acetate frames are smooth and shiny with no nicks, dings or scratches. The frames are also free of any age deterioration like fading or cracking. The metal parts of the frame are shiny and bright with no problems. Both lenses are completely free of any nicks, pits, chips or scuffs, but both lenses do have some very light cleaning or spider web scratching. This wear is very minor and does not interfere with vision in the slightest, but the perfectionist collector may want to pass on a less than pristine pair.

The chrome steel hinges operate silkly smooth and the screw heads show little deformation. The lenses are perfectly aligned the frame symmetry is excellent.

The inside of the left temple is stamped "GATSBY STYLE 4 W0933" and the inside of the right temple is stamped "B&L RAY-BAN USA." Both lenses have the B&L logo etch, but not the white Ray Ban script logo on the right lens. The glasses come with an original Gatsby case in excellent condition.
