LOT # 262 Detailed Photos Estate Road Show L262 LOT OF 4 ANTIQUE AMERICAN WOOD TURNED DOUGH BOWLS + MAPLE BUTTER PADDLE Item Description We are pleased to offer this Lot of 4 Antique / Vintage Primitive Dough Bowls and a Maple Butter Paddle. The largest is 13" across. One made by Parrish, who was one of the two renowned makers (Munising and Parrish) of wooden bowls and other wooden household items in the early 1900s. Parrish went out of business during the Great Depression, These make great kitchen displays and tabletop centerpieces when filled with fruit. Both bowls have age appropriate wear and both bowls have a natural, very desirable age related patina. In Colonial times and through the 19th Century, it was not uncommon for a future husband to carve a wooden dough bowl for his bride as a wedding present. It was also common for a young female to desire a carved wooden dough bowl for her hope chest so that when she married, she would have a very desirable kitchen too. A mothers dough bowl was usually one of the items in an estate that was most sought after typically left to the oldest daughter and there have been more than a few siblings who have stopped talking because of a mutual desire for the same dough bowl.
