LOT # 535 Detailed Photos Estate Road Show L535 ANTIQUE 19TH C RARE RUSSELL ERWIN PLUMED HELMET KNIGHT ENTRANCE DOORKNOBS Item Description We are pleased to offer this set of highly collectible c. 1870's antique ornamental cast bronze "plumed helmet" figural knight doorknobs. Made by the Metallic Compression Casting co., Boston, Ma., Russell & Erwin mfg. co., sole agents, New Britain, CT. This is a very hard to find and highly sought after original american c. 1870's heavy ornamental bronze "plumed helmet" knight figural doorknob entrance set. The exceptionally detailed passage and entrance size knobs have a nicely aged patina. The knob was designed by Ludwig Kruzinger for the metallic compression casting co., Boston, Mass., the design was patented on june 7, 1870. The manufacturer markings are incised on the backside of the doorknob and along the shank. fabricated by the Russell & Erwin mfg. co., New Britain, ct. These knobs are from the golden age of hardware, when quality hardware was manufactured to last and has. This lot is perfect for the collector or restorer and we are now seeing where furniture remakers and talented artists are making coat and clothing racks using these beautiful knobs.
