Among watch collectors, the Omega Watch Co. of Switzerland , a firm founded by Louis Brandt of Biel in 1848, is one of the most renowned brands of timepieces. In 1894 a new caliber bore the name of Omega for the first time, and since then it has produced some of the finest caliber wristwatches money can buy. Omega is my favorite Swiss watch firm as well, combining those qualities of name brand recognition, high quality and (comparative) value that are important to the seasoned watch collector. I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage ladies Ladymatic model, self-winding timepiece from the Omega firm, dating to 1969 and in excellent original condition. This watch is entirely Swiss made and features a high grade Omega mechanism made in-house , not like recent Omegas that use a supplied eBauche mechanism. Quadruple-signed for Omega (dial, crown, case and mechanism), its solid stainless steel case measures 27mm end to end and 21.5mm in width (23.3mm with original Omega signed crown). This equates to just shy of 1-1/8 inches in length by 13/16 of an inch wide, not counting the winding crown. It is fitted on a new old stock 10mm black Kreisler crocodile grain leather strap that will comfortably fit a wrist 5-1/4 inches to 6-1/2 inches in length. I can also find a longer band (i.e., stainless) for those with larger wrists. It has been fully serviced prior to auction and its original rotor automatic Omega mechanism winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. The 100% original silver, butler enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, untouched since it left the factory. It features applied silver and black lacquer finished hour markers, original silver and black lacquer accented hands, a semi-quickset date window at the 3 position and sweeping original center seconds hand. Signed OMEGA below the 12 marker with applied silver Omega logo. It is further signed Ladymatic above the 6 marker and T SWISS MADE T at the base of the dial. The hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent condition, a recent addition that replaced a scratched original acrylic crystal. The two-piece case is Solid Stainless Steel and in great to excellent condition, just a few small scratches if viewed with a magnifying loupe. The original steel Omega-signed winding/setting crown is also excellent, operating as it should. Turning the watch over I note that the stainless steel, screw-down back lid is in excellent PLUS condition with no wear or engravings. Inside I find a clean 17 Jewel, rotor automatic rose gold colored movement that is signed Omega Watch Co., Swiss, Seventeen 17 Jewels, [Caliber] 680 . The serial number is #28,231,850, dating this watch to ca 1969 as per company production records. The inside of the back lid is stamped OMEGA WATCH CO. FAB. SUISSE, SWISS MADE, ACIER INOXYDABLE, 566.002 with Compressor logo below. This fully serviced watch winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time . It is fitted on a new, Kreisler 10mm black crocodile (grain) calf leather band with matching chrome steel buckle. So then, have I interested anyone in this beautiful, original, mid century dress watch? My dog Carl likes it but he keeps losing the watches I give him when we go for a walk!
