Nice Refinished Antique Flat Top Trunk With Straps & Buckles, Working Lock & Key, and Divided Interior TrayWe do encourage you to look at some of our thousand plus customers' nice compliments about the beautiful trunks they have purchased from us in our positive feedback section. This is a really nice refinished flat top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. We are calling it a flat top even though it does have a very slight factory arch to the top. Here are the trunk's measurements: from left to right across the front is 34 1/2 inches, from floor to top is 23 1/4 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 20 1/4 inches. There are eleven pictures of this trunk for you to view. This beautiful trunk appears to be made up of pine base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards. The wood is in pretty nice condition and has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. There are some typical older distress marks like stress cracks and some nicks and dings on the wood, mostly concentrated on to the outer slat boards. The metal parts making up this trunk have been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf since the metal is not brass. We have installed a nice signed working lock onto this trunk. It did not have a working lock when we purchased it. The lock is signed, "Long Lock", and it comes with the key. Originally, this trunk had leather straps with buckles running up the front and across the top. They were eroded away, so we have run a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles in the same location. These straps are not just for looks, they are also functional. The front two latches are original and in good working condition. The side handles were already in place on this trunk when we purchased it. They appear to be in pretty good condition, so we have left them in place. Going to the interior, someone in the past has wallpapered the interior divided tray and the trunk's interior. The wallpaper is holding up pretty well and only has some wavy areas where it has come loose some. We have added a trunk maker's style picture to the underside of the top portraying a horseman riding in the woods with his dogs. This trunk would look very nice sitting at the foot of the bed to store blankets, clothing, and other belongings within. We have sold trunks like this one in the past to many different collectors. Doll, teddy bear, Civil War, coin, and nautical collectors are some that have put their favorite items inside of their beautiful trunk. There are many other ways to utilize these nice refinished trunks inside the modern household. You just need to be creative and come up with your own ideas. Going to the exterior underneath the trunk, it is in pretty good condition. We did glue a section of a slat board together where it was missing. We also installed a set of glides and we finished the bottom of the trunk to make it overall clean. This trunk would make a great gift for a loved one on any special occasion. We have sold hundreds and hundreds of nice trunks as holiday, birthday, wedding, and graduation gifts. Many military service people have purchased trunks from us to store their military items inside.
