The Specs
The Lafayette KT-200 was a kit-built receiver introduced in 1959. T was also factory built version sold by Lafayette as model HE-10, and by Trio (Kenwood) of Japan and Jennen in Europe as the 9R-4J. The KT-200 covers frequecies from 550KHz to 31 Mhz in four bands. It is a transformer operated single conversion design, with an IF of 455 KHz. The bandspread is marked from 0 to 100. The main tuning dial has the international short wave bands highlighted but not the ham bands. The set has 9 tubes including a 6DB6 RF amp, 6BE6 oscillator, 6BE6 mixer, two 6BD6 IF amplifiers, 6AV6 for BFO and ANL, 6AV6 for detector/first audio, 6AR5 for audio output, and 5Y3GT rectifier. An octal socket is located on the rear panel for attaching a Q-multiplier. A review of the HE-10 can be found in the May 1961 issues of '73 Magazine. The set's tuning dial is reminiscent of (and apparently copied from) the Hallicrafters S-38. That's w the similarity to the S-38 ends, though. The KT-200 / HE-10 is a much more capable receiver with its dual IF stages, a tuned RF amp stage, separate oscillator and mixer, transformer operation rather than AC-DC, S-meter, etc. The original kit price was $64.50. For those of you not familiar with shortwave radios, this radio has several features you don't always find, and they're useful: BFO (Beat Frequency Oscillator): can be used to hear CW (morse code) and SSB (side band) signals that you wouldn't make out otherwise. ANL (Automatic Noise Limiter): Helps to reduce noise and scratchiness S- Meter (and adjustment): Measures signal strength Manual or Automatic Volume Control Receive Standby Switch : vital if you'll be using this in your hamshack. SEPARATE audio and IF gain controls: So you can control the signal strength w it makes the most sense (strong signals generally need the IF gain reduced). The Particulars The receiver that I'm auctioning is in good condition. It is currently working, and I am easily able to receive signals on all 4 bands (The BBC is playing in the background as I type this- It's supposed to be at 9.630 MHz, and that's just about what the dial shows). As with all vintage electronics however, it is sold *AS-IS* . It requires an external speaker (4 or 8 ohms) which is *not* included. The case looks good. T's a scratch and a bit of white paint on the top. The AF Gain, BFO Pitch, and S-Meter Adjust knobs aren't original. T's a BNC antenna connector that doesn't look original, either. I've included lots of pictures so have a look around. It's a really nice receiver- I've enjoyed playing with it over the years. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. The Auction NO FOREIGN BIDS PLEASE. Winner will pay for S&H and insurance if desired (I'd recommend it). It weighs 19.8 lbs in it's bare feet (25?? with packaging). I'll package it very carefully, including double-boxes, and "peanuts" inside the receiver to prevent the tubes from working loose or breaking (make sure to take those out before using it!).
