This is a beautiful older lamp globe from the 1930's, made for the type of lamps that were known as the Gone With The Wind style lamps, I believe they were called, w the globe or shade will just sit down inside the edge of the lamps metal top. This has a wonderful scene with two men in a canoe, one to the back paddling, the other up front with a rifle pointing at a deer that is jumping onto the shore. Beside the canoe you can see their hunting dog swimming in the water, which I believe it to be a Walker Hound, but not sure. In the background you can see mountains, trees, river, and shoreline, another canoe with men in it further down river, that are shooting at ducks that are flying into the air. The name of this is called "Hunting for Deer", with a name handpainted below the edge of the scene, both front and back. The scene repeats itself to the back, but on a smaller scale. The colors are wonderful in muted colors of greens, blues, white, browns, and more, it is very detailed. When the light comes through this it is wonderful. The globes glass is in a light green that varies in color, being darker towards the bottom and top, then lighter through the middle. This measures at 10 inches tall, by 8- 1/2 inches across for the globe as a whole, the openings being at for the top, approx. 2- 7/8 inches across, by approx. 3- 5/8 inches across for the bottom opening (the part that sits within the lamps holder). This globe is in beautiful condition with no damage and minimal flea ticks around the top and bottom of the globe, barely worth mentioning. A perfect gift for the hunter, collector of hounds, or even those who enjoy the frontier. Is made of a good weighty glass, not thinly made. Has been well cared for and will come from a smoke free home. I stated before that this was signed Currier & Ives, and after a person emailed and asked me, I now see that this say's "Carrier & Ives". So I am not sure if the U was simply closed when painted, or what, but this is what it say's as the close up in the picture does show, and when putting the name Carrier & Ives into my msn search, I get the link below that connects you to an event through them for "Currier & Ives" items, so I am not sure of the connection if t is any. Thank you. /event/1384446/
