Lamson & Swasey, Portland, Maine 6 Gallon Crock with Chicken Pecking Corn Coming to you from Doc's Crocks, America's Source for Antique Stoneware , is this wonderful 5 Gallon Stoneware Crock made and stamped by "Lamson & Swasey, Portland, ME." This is the mark of Rufus Lamson and Eban Swasey who ran the pottery in Portland under this stamp from 1875-1878 ( William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , p. 37). This beauty sports the maker's stamp with cobalt wash and a Large Chicken Pecking Corn in Rich Cobalt Blue. As you know, blue decorated stoneware from this pottery is uncommon. Stands 13 1/2" tall and wide across the top. Good to Very Good Condition. A 1/4" chip and a 2" surface-only line inside the rim. Four hairlines from the rim: 5" to the left of the pottery stamp (closeup 1), 5" in front of the right handle (closeup 2), 3" on the back (closeup 3), and 5" behind the left handle (closeup 4). All are very hard to see. No outer rim or base chips, stains, or restoration. Please view the full gallery of pictures as part of the description.
