This auction is for an extremely rare piece of history. This is a land indenture dated May 29, 1764 between Mary Hopkinson, Thomas Cadwalader, Richard Peters and Thomas Wharton for a parcel of land situated in Moyaminsing. This was signed by Francis Hopkinson (1737 -1791) who was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. This was also signed by Mary Hopkinson, his mother, and Thomas Cadwalader. Document is on vellum and measures approx. 32 inches by 27.5 inches. It exhibits some staining and toning and some fold wear affecting text but not signatures. It still has the original seals. What a treasure !! Francis Hopkinson was born in 1737 in Philadelphia, Pa. He was the first scholar and first Graduate of the College of Philadelphia. His father and his friend Benjamin Franklin played a role in the chartering of the college. Francis Hopkinson was elected a Delegate to the Continental Congress in 1776, w he signed the Declaration of Independence. This is an extremely rare piece of history. Don't let this one get away.
