Summer Forest Scene Original Early 20th Century Oil Painting on Board attributed to Herbert F. Royle (1870-1958) A very fine British Impressionist oil painting on board depicting a forest scene in summer attributed to highly regarded landscape painter Herbert Royle. The painting is wonderfully executed and remains in very fine condition with minor imperfections including a small puncture to the board lower left which does not detract. The painting is presented in an early 20th century wood and gilt composite frame with minor losses and other imperfections. The painting is signed lower left. Herbert Royle was a painter of landscapes in mainly oil, studied art at the Harris Institute, Preston, the School of Art Southport and under Buxton Knight in Sevenoaks, Kent. Noted for his Wharfdale landscapes around Ilkley. Amember of the Wharfdale group and Yorkshire Union of Artists. Exhibited at the Royal Academy, The Walker Gallery, Liverpool amongst many.
